I Switched Publishing Companies!

Hi everyone! I know–it’s been a while. A lot has happened in my life (good and bad) since the last time I posted. One of them being the fact that I decided to switch publishing companies and therefore revamped my books to look entirely different. The result? I made an excellent choice. Check out these gorgeous booksà

Aren’t the covers amazing??? Their artwork was created by Merilliza Chan*–a very talented and amazing artist. I saw the work she did with another author’s novels and I just had to reach out to her for my new covers. I’m glad I did!! She brought my characters to life beautifully and captured their essence to the T.

So I originally published the first two books in the Omordion Trilogy with Abbott Press. Yeah, I was a novice at the whole self-publishing world and also extremely naïve. I went into the world of publishing thinking that I was making the best decisions. In the end, I had products that were way too expensive ($23.99/paperback, ($39.95/hardcover)—ridiculous you say? It only gets better. My royalties per book sold was only a couple of dollars. I was also convinced to spend over $400 on a press release that simply did not work or was never used, they could never give me a list of where it was actually sent so I can follow up with the companies. The only things I liked was the fact that the books looked really professional and I could always fall back on the ebook if my readers thought my books were too expensive. After taking a chance to publish my second book with them, hoping that things will get better since I was a returning author, I found out that Writer’s Digest had dropped them earlier that year and everything sort of spiraled downhill from there. The communication took weeks between email correspondences, I couldn’t reach anyone by phone anymore, and it took forever for my second book to finally be released. Within a couple of months after the release of my second book, I found out on my own that Kindle delisted all of Abbott Press’ ebooks. All of them! I called the company and they basically said there was nothing they could do since Amazon made the decision. So now I had two books that were too expensive with no ebooks to share!

I decided then to go on a search for a new publishing company and was recommended to check out Gatekeeper Press by another bestselling author and, ever since I made the switch, I have never been happier. Their motto is ‘Where Authors are Family’ and they really treat you as such. I was able to set the price of my books to $11.99, which is much better for my readers and I now have ebooks once again. Kelly Santaguida was the consultant I worked with this year for my second book and she was just awesome. She always responded right away to my emails and she paid excellent attention to the details I wanted. When it was all said and done, I have two book babies that I’m proud of and am very happy to share with my readers.
